Please Help
DEAR ELFINWILD FAMILY, When I retired
a year ago I began volunteering at Helen Faison
Elementary in Homewood. It is the worst performing
school in the Pittsburgh Public Schools. I
volunteer with 150 other volunteers from local
churches who the Pittsburgh School board has
allowed to go into this school.
These children are delightful and we have
a real chance to make a difference at their
young ages. There are many obstacles and one
of them is affording the mandatory school
uniform. As a result few of the children have
more than one uniform and that uniform doesn’t
get cleaned very often. So, we are collecting
used children’s clothing that we will
repair and clean and then give out to the
children. This will enable the school to have
a reserve and be able to wash the kids’
clothes when things get too bad.
What we need are plain collared shirts, long
or short sleeved in navy blue, light blue,
light yellow or white and khaki shorts, skirts
or pants. These clothes can be sized from
a 6x to a man or woman’s small. Seriously,
some of the kids are adult sized. We will
clean and repair any donations.
I thank you very much for any of your help.
I will put boxes in the narthex and at the
back of the sanctuary.
God bless, Kyle Pinta

WORSHIP
AT CALVERT.
Members of Elfinwild
are invited to attend worship at Clavert Presbyterian
Church during one of its Sunday morning worship
services during the next several months. This
is a
great way to spread God’s love in the
community
and to share worship with other believers
in our community. Calvert’s worship
service begins at
10:30 a.m. If you attend
early services at Elfinwild,
you may want to consider attending Calvert’s
service after our early service. Sign-up sheets
are located
in the hall outside the chapel. Please contact
Jeff Mulkern or Jim Giel, Jr. with any questions.
Call
church office for phone numbers.
Calvert Presbyterian
Update
The Tuesday Club continues to provide
a great after-school program from Children
in the Etna community.
Calvert has been able to maintain a worshipping
community through the
financial and volunteer
support of Elfinwild, Glenshaw, and Parkwood
churches. Volunteers have cleaned, painted,
moved rooms and have assisted with community
outreach programs. There will be many more
opportunities
to assist the faith-community at Calvert as
they
continue to serve Christ and his Kingdom in
Etna
and the surrounding communities of Sharpsburg,
Millvale and Laurenceville. Calvert is the
only Presbyterian church left in those communities.
Contact Jim Giel, Jr.
and Jeff Mulkern if you
wish to help or for more information. Be sure
to
read the entire story in the September Call.

What Can I Do? Addressing
Caregivers Concerns
Often times it is awkwark to approach
someone and
ask for help. And often times people will
say, "if i'd known there was a need,
I would have helped" when
the need is passed. To try and bridge this
gap we are asking those who need help and
those who can help
to come forward and let us know you are there.
We are currently compiling a list of people
willing to
be called upon by caregivers who need a little
help or
just a little break from
their homes to run errands,
visit a doctor, or have a lunch with a friend.
There
are also oppportunities to do extended care
duties,
which are paid positions. If you or someone
you know,
or agency you can recommend, is willing to
be
available on our "Caregivers Call List"
please call the Parish Nurses, Cheryl Siar,
or the church office.
Placing your name on the list does not commit
you to anything more than you may be avalable
to help if someone calls. This list would
stay within our congregation.
Passavant Hospital
offers reduced meals for senior citizens through
the Senior Wellness Network.
Seniors may call Passavant Hospital at 412-367-6700
to register for meals in the cafeteria at
a reduced
rate. Meals are served Monday through Friday
from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm.
CARING HANDS
The Caring Hands Ladies are very active these
days. Our ministry has really grown in the
past 5 years. Along with Hug-A-Bears that
go to nursing homes, police departments, Shaler
EMS, Passavant Emergency Room and Allegheny
General Nursery, we made made bosom pillows
for cancer patients, and hats for chemo patients
for Dr. Crandall’s office, quilts for
isolettes and blankets for Project Linus and
small pillows for Ronald McDonald House for
children. We make baptims boxes for our church
and have added making prayer shawls for church
members with a need and for others who know
of a need for one.
Our Bears go all over the world…not
only in the USA, but also to Guatemala, Russia,
China, India, Africa, Mexico, and South America.
If anyone would like to join us on the 2nd
and 4th Tuesday of the month from 1-3 p.m.
we would love to have you. God has been so
good to us.
You may contact either Mary Ann Johnson or
Nancy Matthews through the church office.
