As a people of God, we believe it is important
that our responsibilities be accomplished. As Paul
writes in Ephesians 4:1-3, “…I urge
you to live a life worthy of the calling you have
received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient,
bearing with one another in love. Make every effort
to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond
of peace.” As a church we must be unified
in Christ. We must make every effort to work together
for the common good with humility, gentleness, patience
and love. In doing so, the witness of Elfinwild
Presbyterian Church will shine the light of Christ
throughout the community.
Faith is the focal point of life for members
of Elfinwild Presbyterian Church. In 2002, the Session
of Elfinwild Presbyterian Church voted to become
part of the Confessing Church Movement. This movement
reaffirms three basic confessional statements:
| 1. Jesus Christ,
alone, is Lord and Savior of humankind. |
| 2. Holy Scripture alone is the rule,
guide, and standard for the theology of the
Church. |
| 3. We live by grace
alone, and are called to live a holy life in
our conduct. |
Elfinwild Presbyterian Church is a member
of the Pittsburgh Presbytery, which is part of the
Presbyterian Church USA. Our elders attend scheduled
Presbytery meetings.
Elfinwild Presbyterian Church welcomes
everyone in Jesus’ name for worship and all
church activities. New members are welcomed through
an orientation program which concludes with a meeting
with the Session and an introduction to the congregation
during a worship service.
The sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated in
the Sanctuary approximately four times per year.
The elements are served by the Elders and Deacons
to worshippers in the pews. The formal setting allows
for a time of reflection and introspection. Communion
is served to all those who profess a belief in Jesus
Christ as Savior.
At the heart of each ministry at Elfinwild
Presbyterian Church is a desire to share the love
of God and serve our Lord. We serve, in the name
of God our Father, the needs of our church, our
community, and the world with the talents and resources
we have been given and called to use. Since its
beginning in 1912, Elfinwild Presbyterian Church
has been active in a variety of ministries. Elfinwild
has a history of strong community involvement and
a great staff of volunteers who give much of their
time to share the love of Jesus Christ.
